The Celtics Are Showing People They Are Here To Stay
On Monday night the Celtics beat the Washington Wizards in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. They locked up the series which advanced them to the conference finals for the first time in 5 years. We were favored in the series but there were many naysayers who didn't think the Celtics had what it took to advance far in the playoffs, yet we did.
On Tuesday night we had the NBA Draft lottery which determined the exact order of the draft. The Celtics had historically bad luck in the lottery before this most recent one. In 1986 the Celtics had the 5th best odds and jumped up to the 2nd pick and took Len Bias, who died tragically. In 1997 they had the 2nd best odds to get the number 1 pick and take Tim Duncan, but they missed out. In 2007 they had the second best odds to get the number 1 or 2 pick and take Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, but they dropped all the way to 5th. This year they had the best odds to get the number 1 pick and take Markelle Fultz, AND THEY FUCKING GOT IT. I don't think I have ever been that excited in my life. The Celtics lottery luck finally turned around and they now have the top overall pick. They have a lot of ways they can go with the pick, but that's a story for another day. It just feels like everything is going the Celtics' way, which brings me to my next point.
All year and all playoffs I have been saying the Celtics don't have a puncher's chance in hell of beating the Cavs in this series. I've been saying they will get swept or lose in 5 games. I have given them no shot to win this series. But now I just don't know. It seems like everything is coming up Celtics. I still don't think they will win this series, but tonight i give them a chance to win. I think they can ride this streak they are on and give the Cavs a tough game tonight. They might not be ready to win a title just yet, but they are here to show everybody they have a good young team and they're coming for the crown at some point in the future. Whether it be with the Isaiah Thomas/Horford core or with Fultz and Jaylen Brown in the future, the Celtics are here and they aren't going anywhere.
PS - God bless Danny Ainge. His moves these past 4 years have been the best run of an NBA GM as I have ever seen. We are a competitive team in the Eastern Conference that is still rebuilding via top draft picks. While we're at it, god bless Billy king for being so stupid and agreeing to the Pierce/KG trade which gave us all these draft picks. I won't say Danny is free and clear yet with me though because if he trades this pick or drafts Lonzo Ball we will have problems. He better take Fultz and if he does then I might just forgive him for taking Kelly The Clinic Olynyk over Giannis Antetokounmpo.
