How Far Can The Celtics Go?
The Celtics overachieved this regular season finishing with a 53-29 record, and by beating out the Cavs for the best record in the Eastern Conference. That's a great accomplishment for a regular NBA franchise , but for the Celtics it is meaningless. The only thing that matters for the Celtics and its fans is banners.
The regular season in today's NBA does not compare to the NBA in the 1980's and the 1990's. It's a different kind of game now with players resting more and taking more time to heal up.
With that being said, it is obvious that this Celtics team is not championship caliber, even with the first overall seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics had a great regular season, but this team can really raise some eyebrows with a deep playoff run?
But, what are some realistic expectations for the C's?
The Celtics should win a playoff round, or this season will practically be a failure. Their is no reason why the C's should fall to the Bulls, who had a 41-41 regular season record.
Personally, I believe this is a tougher matchup than anticipated for the Celtics. Jimmy Butler is a legitimate two-way player, Dwayne Wade is always a scoring threat, and not to mention the recent play of former Celtic Rajon Rondo. Chicago finished 7-2 in their last 9 games, and should not be taken lightly.
Even if Chicago is a tough matchup for the Celtics, it really should not change the end result. Brad Stevens and Isaiah Thomas need to prove themselves in the playoffs. If they can't deliver against Chicago then Brad Stevens and company should be criticized and be under scrutiny.
Last season, the Celtics got bounced by the Atlanta Hawks in the first-round. Crowder was banged up, and Avery Bradley was out for the entire series.
This season is a totally different story, the Celtics couldn't be healthier going into the playoffs.
If the Celtics do get by the Bulls, they are looking at the Wizards in the second-round. The Wizards are a great offensive team, and have 2 very talented guards to look out for in John Wall and Bradley Beal.
That series would be a difficult one for the C's, Wall presents a unique matchup that is tough to neutralize.
So, how far can the Celtics go?
The C's could make it to the Eastern Conference finals if Horford, Bradley, or Crowder step up to be the second scoring option behind Thomas. Isaiah Thomas will be double teamed every game, he's going to need help and I just don't think Horford and the rest of the Celtic starter can provide that.
This playoff run could decide the future of many Celtic players. It should be a thrill ride,
